The Oregonian teamed up with consulting and data-gathering firm WorkplaceDynamics LLP each of the last two years in an effort to discover which organizations have the happiest workers in Oregon and southwest Washington.
This spring WorkplaceDynamics invited 1,070 companies to participate in confidential employee surveys. Of those, 138 agreed to make their more than 43,500 employees available for paper or online surveys. More than 60 percent of the employees at the participating companies responded, answering 22 questions apiece with a range of answers on a seven-point scale. Anonymously, they gave their opinions on everything from pay and benefits to working conditions and corporate leadership.
After running a series of statistical tests to make sure organizations aren’t gaming the system, WorkplaceDynamics averaged the scores and named the top 10 large companies, top 15 mid-size companies and top 50 small companies. (The small companies needed a minimum of 35 employees to allow for a sufficient sample size.)
